My personal journey with yoga began 15 years ago in Colorado. It has deepened my focus on mind/body awareness, biomechanics, and injury prevention. I have been actively teaching Hatha and Ashtanga yoga since 2009. Also, I have been learning the importance of Ayurvedic nutrition as it relates to yoga practice and personal health.
What is Hatha Yoga?
Hatha Yoga uses postures (asana) and conscious breathing (Pranayama) in combination with mental focus to develop awareness, strength and flexibility, and relaxation. Classes guide the students’ in developing a sense of physical and mental balance, proper body alignment, and injury prevention.
What is Ashtanga Yoga?
Ashtanga yoga literally means “eight-limbed yoga,” as outlined by the sage Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. According to Patanjali, the path of internal purification for revealing the Universal Self consists of the following eight spiritual practices:
1. Yama [moral codes]
2. Niyama [self-purification and study]
3. Asana [posture]
4. Pranayama [breath control]
5. Pratyahara [sense control]
6. Dharana [concentration]
7. Dhyana [meditation]
8. Samadhi [absorption into the Universal
